2024 Opening Day was a HIT!! + HRD Results

Coined as the "official start of the season," the Scripps Ranch Little League Opening Day Celebration held on Sunday, February 25th, was a big hit! Over 500 players representing 54 teams from 7 different divisions, along with their families and friends participated in this year’s festivities!

The event was held at Dingeman Elementary / Spring Canyon Park due to Jerabek Park Closure which proved to be a great venue for the annual celebration.

The opening ceremony included a speech from San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, who emphasized themes of encouragement, camaraderie, and community spirit. The event featured a "Parade of Teams" and the ceremonial "first pitch" thrown by Scripps Ranch's "unofficial mayor," Bob Ilko.

We enjoyed music from our local "School of Rock" during the opening ceremonies and DJ Tim provided tunes throughout the rest of the day. The event drew in a wide range of vendors and sponsors, showcasing their products and services while offering specials and giveaways to guests. Bounce houses were provided for the little ones (and maybe some big kids, and possibly an adult or two.) It was also “Picture Day” where teams and individuals posed for the proverbial pin/button shot.

A wide range of newly designed merchandise was on sale with much of it selling out! Be sure to stop by games this year where more of it will be on sale! The “world best little league snack bar” held their ‘opening day’ as well and served up lots of goodies for adults and kids! Did you miss out? No worries, the snack bars will be opening throughout the season so grab some grub at your next game!

The highlight of the day was the first official game of the season, a great matchup between the Padres (Ragus) and the Dodgers (Balastrieri) in the Juniors division. The nail-biter went into 2 extra innings where the Padres came out on top 10-7!

And it wouldn’t be an Opening Day without the players’ “Home Run Derby”! The derby saw an impressive 24% increase in registered teams from the previous year, with 49 teams competing across 6 divisions! Medals were awarded to the top 3 teams in each division, and the top hitter in each division received a trophy!

The generosity of the Scripps Ranch community was on full display as the annual “Opportunity Drawing (aka Raffles) came to a close! This year’s opportunity drawing brought in a record-breaking $31,260 in donations from over 800 supporters. Over 45 fabulous prizes were donated by the community. THANK YOU Scripps Ranch for all of the support!

President Avi Burat called the day “Amazing” and had nothing but great things to say about the league, the community and the upcoming season!

Overall, the 2024 Scripps Ranch Little League Opening Day Celebration was a huge success uniting the community in sportsmanship, camaraderie, and fun! We look forward to an exciting and successful 2024 Little League Season!
